Article summary

Whether you are new to the QCD module or want to improve your usage, understanding QCD terms is essential.

This glossary explains the key terms used in the QCD module. It provides a simple and practical reference for daily use. Quickly adopt the QCD terminology and access its main features with ease.

QCD:  Generic name of the Lean method supported by this module. QCD stands for Quality, Cost, and Delivery - the core pillars of this approach.

QCD Action: A key element to log and track corrective actions. These actions address performance gaps or issues.

QCD Action card: A visual card used to display a QCD action on a board. An action card has all the properties of iObeya cards.

QCD Action Table: Tool displaying a filtered view of actions from any room and board. Unlike the action plan, this view appears directly on the board. Adjusting the table size shows more or fewer actions.

QCD Board: Dedicated board for the QCD module. It behaves like a standard board but has specific properties and utilities to be configured after the naming step.

QCD Chart: Tool to visualize the values and thresholds of indicators entered in the boxes. It scans a defined letter and generates graphs based on the configuration.

Note:

Chart can be defined as:

  • short-term: displays data based on the current history frequency.

  • long-term: aggreagates data for multiple historical periods.

QCD Letter: Main tool in QCD that contains all the data being managed.

Note:

You can input indicators on your QCD board only through the letter.

QCD Table: Tool to detail the values of entered indicators. It links to a letter’s indicators and displays the content of each box, showing indicators in rows, boxes in columns, entered values, their statuses, and valuation rules.

Action plan: Detailed list of QCD actions that allows users to filter, manage, and track corrective measures addressing performance issues.

Box: The smallest display unit. Each box contains KPI values and corrective or preventive actions.

Note:

A box is linked to a letter.

Consolidation: Process of unifying and streamlining indicator data. This process combines information from different boards and indicators to provide an integrated and accurate overview of project performance.

Escalation: If a issue cannot be resolved at team level, it is escalated to a manager or other hierarchical level for corrective action. iObeya facilitates this communication by enabling information to be shared instantly and the status of the issue to be visualized in real time. This mechanism is designed to ensure that critical issues receive the attention they need to be dealt with quickly and effectively.

Note:

  • As a Room administrator, you:

    • configure the escalation of actions “room by room” through the QCD utility.

    • define the rooms you want to “subscribe to”, and select the types of escalation they are interested in for each room.

    • can perform escalation both “vertically” and “horizontally”.

Escalation Level Type: Setting used to manage action escalation

Note:

  • You define the escalation level type in the room settings.

  • Each level is available for every board.

Historical data: A process for recording and storing data on key performance indicators (KPIs) over time. This mechanism enables users to track performance trends and provides a detailed historical data for further analysis.

Note:

You can change the historical data in the QCD utilities.

Indicators: Data that are evaluated and tracked over time.

Note:

  • An indicator is always associated with a letter and can be connected to one or more Rings.

  • You can input indicators on your QCD board only through the letter.

Lite Mode: Allows teams to focus on their rituals by using only essential features.

Ring: Allows to define the number of rings (1 to 3).

Note:

  • A ring is linked to a letter.

  • Each ring is divided into boxes.

Ritual frequency: Determines how often the QCD ritual is performed within a given period. It directly impacts the number of boxes in the letter.

Note:

You set the ritual frequency in the letter settings.

Time window: Defines how often board data is archived.

Note:

You can define the time window when you configure your QCD board.

Valuation Rule: Rule defining how boxes in the letter are colored. It includes a calculation method, one or two thresholds, and a formula.
